While browsing the net, you may come across a lot many sites which you find interesting and would like to visit often. It is difficult to remember all the site addresses but then that's where bookmarks or favorites come in. Just bookmark the website and you can again access it at a later date without the need to remember the site address. So far so good. But consider this scenario which is far too common. You are sitting in your office and want to access that downloadable mp3 site you had bookmarked on your home computer. You suddenly realize that you cannot remember the URL and that saved bookmark is not going to be any help since you have no access to it. The solution for such frustrating times is Xmarks. Xmarks is a free bookmarking plugin available for multiple browsers across multiple platforms. It synchronizes your bookmarks automatically among all your computers, Windows or Mac, and across all the main brands of Web browsers — Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox. It doesn’t merely synchronize your bookmarks between instances of the same browser. It synchronizes them between different browser brands, even if some are running on Windows PCs and some on Macs. You can add or reorder your bookmarks and the changes are automatically saved to the server. When you log in through another computer, the server updates your bookmarks on that computer automatically. You are left with same set of bookmarks across your computers. But if you don’t want exactly the same set of bookmarks on all your machines, you can set up different profiles with different bookmarks for your work and home computers. And even if you are at a friend's house, you can still access the password-protected Web site containing your bookmarks from any PC and can view or edit all your bookmarks on the go. You can even do this on your smart phone though to sync your bookmarks on the phone you would have to opt for the premium service which costs $1 per month. You also can share bookmarks with others via email or an RSS feed. Another cool feature is that Xmarks can also sync your open tabs. For example, if you have multiple tabs open in your Chrome browser on your work PC, you can continue your browsing from home by accessing the same tabs in Safari on your Macbook at home. There are other Web-based bookmark services, notably a service called Delicious. But none of them automatically synchronizes bookmarks among browsers and computers, which is the main function of Xmarks. In short, Xmarks is a clever service which can help users of multiple computers and multiple browsers to keep their Web lives in order.
